How can I grow a pineapple?
I'm trying to grow a pineapple top. I have already prepared the crown. I was just wondering, when I place the crown in a clear glass of water, do I need to add sugar, salt or any other minerals that will help to get better rooting? Is 3 week long enough to see roots, or will I have to keep the crown in a glass of water for a longer period? Also, is 3 days long enough for the crown to dry out before placing it in the glass of water?
Thank you in advance!
for the crown you cut it off and take all the lower leaves completely off until you see some flesh. that flesh is what will make the roots.
dry it off for only a day then place it in water
the time it takes to see roots can vary from 1 week to 1 or 2 months. i suggest you put it in a clear deep bowl, or a wide cup. add the water and wait. a clear bowl is best so you know when thw water it getting dirty, and when the plant is showing roots. it is improtant to leave the plant for a while after roots are seen and not to take it out until roots are over 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches.
when ready to pot put in a sandy soil not too sandy, and give the bottom of the pot lots of holes. in heat water daily. if indoors 2 times a day it good.
when first in the soil water 2 times a day and then less and less as time goes on until you are watering about once every 2 days
